Before your Session

After you schedule your session with me, you will be sent an information packet. In this packet you will find some helpful information along with some forms that need to be filled out completely and returned with your retainer fee prior to your session.

Session Details

For your session, please allow 1 to 2 hours (longer for newborns and larger groups) we want a relaxed/un-rushed session. I know sometimes its best to take more time to get that perfect shot and with little ones it can take some time to warm up to me and feel comfortable. Often times kids need to break for a snack or babies need to nurse, so be sure to a lot plenty of time in your schedule to ensure a relaxed, unrushed, and enjoyable experience for the child (and the parent). Feel free to bring along a favorite toy, stuffed animal etc. that may make your child feel more comfortable or that you would like to use during the portrait session. Most sessions are held on location. You may choose to have your session at your home, a park, or a place that is special to your family. I can also recommend a few of my favorite places. Believe it or not some of the best newborn captures have been taken right in the babies very own nursery that mom gave so much time and detail to. Toddlers feel most at peace in their playroom OR in mommy and daddy's bed.

Session Fees

The session retainer fee covers: My time and talent during a personal on-location session at a location(s) of your choice, travel to your location of choice, digital processing including minor retouching, and an online proofing gallery or an in person ordering session. *Prints sold separately*

Due to the custom nature of each session, all sales are final.

Session fees are due at the time the appointment is scheduled. I understand that occasionally things arise and you may need to reschedule your appointment, I ask that you please contact me at least 48 hours before the appointment when possible so your session fee can be applied to another date that is more convenient for you. Session fees are none refundable, all no show appointments will forfeit the session fees.

Clothing

Choosing your clothes for your family portraits is a major decision that should be thought over carefully. The key word in choosing clothes for your family pictures is “coordinate“. You don’t necessarily have to be “matchy, matchy”, but the colors and style should go well together. In the same way that you pick a “color palette” when you paint your walls or redecorate your home, you should select a color palette for your clothing and make sure that not only do the clothes go well together, but that they also go well with the colors of your desired location.

Here are a few guidelines to follow (certainly not hard and fast rules)

•Long pants and long sleeves will usually draw more attention to your faces. The more skin we see on your body, the more distracted we are from your faces.

•Jeans are timeless. They can be dressed up or dressed down. Just try to get the shade of the jeans to match. You don’t want some members of your group wearing light jeans and others wearing dark jeans.

•Darker colors tend to photograph better and will be more slimming.

•It’s usually a good idea to avoid clothing with large distracting patterns. Solid colors tend to photograph better.

•Accessories like jackets, scarves, hats, hair bows, etc. can add interest and provide accent colors in the same way that an accent pillow on your sofa would.

•Wear clothes that are flattering on you. Photoshop can do certain things, but it’s not magic!

•Glasses can cause problems unless you have non-reflective lenses. Make sure that if you do need to wear glasses they do not tint and shade your eyes when you go outside, and that the light does not create a glare in the glass

•Hair and make-up is also important for the ladies. We often suggest having your hair and make-up professionally an hour or so before your session.

Having said all of that, the bottom line is that the clothing should reflect the personality of your family. If you’re a very casual bunch, don’t feel like you need to dress in suits and ties. Be yourself and come ready to have a great time.

Viewing and Ordering Your Images

About 7 to 14 days after your session you will be contacted and given information on how to view your images online and purchase your images. Your online gallery will remain on the website for 15 days. If you want the gallery put back on the site for the purposes of ordering or showing them to family or friends, there will be a $10/week charge for additional weeks.
